The Commitments was a new movie back in the day when my hubby and I first started dating in highschool. 25 yeats later and we still listen to the soundtrack, me probably way more than him but I am a sappy music, hallmark movie loving girl.
Todays sign is to commemerate our meeting and added a little fun but incorporating the a favorite song from that era and movie.
Google maps is my best friends most days when I go out and about into Phoenix or pretty much anywhere out of my little town. My husbands jokes and calls me directionally challeneged. I’m lucky I know what way is up but if I didnt have cellular data I would be perpetually lost. This is not a joke. I have GPS in my car and on my phone. For example, I took a bad left and ended up lost in Compton on a visit in Los Angeles when I didn’t use GOOGLE.
I need GOOGLE maps. Need them like we need air to breathe and water to drink. Anyways this isn’t an advertisement for Google but I am going to talk about a cool feature. When you go into maps you can get Latitude and Longitude Coordinates as well as directions.
So needless to say these coordinates lead to house I lived in when I was 16 years old. Where I met my hubby on my patio for a “blind date” set up by friends. We lived in California at that time and had I been a resturant with a sign that said, “no shoes, no shirt, no service.” He would of been out of luck. As it was I thought my friend had lost her mind. He was everything I didn’t know I needed or wanted and I can’t imagine life without him. To reiterate the point here we are 25 years later. So this sign was for us. Our anniversary.
Happy 25th Anniversary my love. Were may have started at this point but I will follow you to any destination as long as we’re together.
So we have this wall clock. Nothing fancy but it’s a good clock. I bought it when it was on a discontinued item sale. I had a lot of compliments on it and I liked it but… it seemed everywhere i turned in town it was there.
Like this thing was the thing to buy. It was in the nail salon I go to. In a few homes I looked at that were for sale, in a friends house, in a classroom, the local froyo shop, restaurant, and the list goes on. I don’t live in that big of a town.
So being that it was a sturdy item and worked well I decided to give it a new look. A wall clock makeover if you will. Being that my style is farmhouse deco this didn’t really match any longer any ways. So I painted it white. Shocking I know right. Like if that didn’t surprise the pants off you the next one will. Wait for it… Then I used chalk paint and put on roman numerals. I told you.
So needless to say it is now an Angie “original”. Like so many other clocks I have seen. I bet theirs doesn’t hang slightly off kilter though. Memo to all you who decide to do this. Make sure your hole on the back and your 12 on the front are lined up…perfectly. It helps to make it look asthetically pleasing and makes it easier to read. Now it looks like Salvador Dali has been to my house. At least until I can get my hubby to put a new hole in the back.
Anyways here’s the before and after photo. I wish I would remember to take a photo before I actually start working on a project. I had taken the hands off the clock already when I took it. The hands were a bronze color. Instead of repainting them I flipped them over and have them on the silver side. I wasn’t sure at first but it matches the appliances and kitchen scheme well this way.
So I know it’s only January but February has my very favorite holiday. I love Valentine’s day. We were married on Valentine’s day. We found out we were pregnant with our second son on Valentine’s day. We all make special homemade cards for each other, including the kids. I decorate a tree for the holiday because we all know it’s not a holiday unless there is a tree involved. LOL! I love red, and pink, I love hearts. It’s just my thing. Seriously wait till you see the huge herringbone heart I made just getting a start for this February.
So it took me a while to get the hang of the layout as I had no cutout or stencil for this. It was the first one I have ever made. My hubby helped of course. He was the reason it actually was finished being he did all the major cutting for me. Let me tell you I LOVE IT!
So it all started with a freehand drawing and a cutout on some 1/4 inch plywood. The hubby cut it out for me. You can see that I had a pattern of boards going on behind it to make sure it fit. I think used some wood glue between the boards and plywood then stapled that sucker down with all that I had. Hubby cut around the back piece which was like a guide.
All cut out and ready for some homemade whitewash.
All cut out and ready for some homemade whitewash. Then I hung it on a very empty wall in the living room.
Here’s a size reference. It’s a HUGE heart.
I added a string of poms poms to add a splash of color for Valentine’s Day.
So my laundry is in constant disarray with clothes hang drying. We have a laundry horse and it sits right between the 2 doors, mind you this is NOT a wide room. The horse is constantly getting knocked over by the dog and our kids who are typically making a fast bee line through when we get home from school, in the tornado they become and aftermath of distruction they leave behind my laundry horse spends more time on the floor than drying clothing. In other words moist clean clothing on the floor which is tile that has been re-carpeted daily with Husky hair by our wonderful fur ball dog.
SO of course it was another Pinterest find. I can not even begin to tell you how many hours have been lost while I am searching Pinterest. It really is the blackhole of time. Initially I saved several different designs. Went and bought what I thought I would need for the wood and the hardware then let it sit in the garage for 2 months. I let it sit because I was so nervous about screwing it up with the measurements for the doweling. I DO NOT have patience for that and I don’t math. So finally my hubby had time to make it, or maybe I just pestered him enough. Who knows.
We fought with this project more than any other we have done and did a lot of DIY to make sure the frame was square and measurements were perfect. Being there were no instructions and we are flying by the seat of our pants I think it turned out pretty good. We learned a lot in the process and if we ever needed to build another one we know what we would do differently.
I think once again my husband did awesome on the build, I love our team work. He was surprised that I use this as often as I have already.
It’s been a busy month and I haven’t updated forever so with that being said be prepared to be bombarded by post in the next few days as I play catch. With projects, family, holidays, vacations and life there just didn’t seem to be enough time in the day.
Today’s DIY was a quick blanket ladder. It took maybe an hour to make including staining it. I love quick projects. Instant gratification is nice on occasion. Especially after some of the projects I did this last month.
The ladder I had some extra planks laying around so I showed my husband what I wanted and he put it together. I had most of it cut already. I love it. I think next time we will angle the ladder sides so it “v”‘s in more at the top and give it more the vintage look.
I just finished selling all my Thanksgiving signs and am moving onto the next season. Christmas. At least thats the season for me.
Anyway there is this sign that keeps popping up on my IG feed. It’s everywhere. I have been dying to make one for month but just haven’t been able to bring myself to just because we were still in the 100’s. Now the last 2 weeks we have been in the 80-90 degree range it seemed more doable.
So I bought gold paint and hopped on it. While that one was drying I got a wild hair to do another that I have thought about for some time. I love them both. I am going to have to make some for others because I can’t give these up.
Of course I made frames and did them a bit differently. I actually cut groves into them for the sign to sit in. I am not sure if I like that or not yet. We will see how it goes over.
No it’s not some weird DIY on how to get sick. We have been super busy here and had an illness run though as well. The husband was traveling and I was juggling being a taxi for the kids for school, music lessons and sports, then this last weekend we had a soccer tournament. Talk about heat exhaustion. So if that wasn’t fun enough through in a few sick kids. So I have literally got nothing done in the last week.
To be honest I am super nervous now too. I have my very first craft fair this week. Nothing huge it’s just a school thing but still. It’s MY FIRST CRAFTING BOOTH! Did I mention I got nothing for it. Scotts been in the garage all day cutting wood for me to do my thing. I was laying on the couch all day with a migraine and upset stomach. I am hoping this bug is a quick thing like it was for the kids.
I have been working on a list of crafts to make. So I can hopefully get some orders as well. I feel like Santa with my list some days. I am a list person. I carry a notebook with me. I love writing and I love list…almost as much as pumpkins. I get the list making from my dad too. He was always having me write up list for him when he was working and I was spending the day with him. Grocery list, work list, to do list at home, to do list at the shop, ect… Now I have my own list. Lots of them My grocery list, my- I want to make list, I need to make, home improvement ideas, gift ideas, and on and on. Seriously pages of list but I love checking things off. I may be a bit OCD.
So laying on the couch is getting my no where today. This week is crammed with things that need to be done before Friday (according to all my list) not including the craft fair items. So I am stressed a little, sick a little, a little nervous and exhausted just from last week.
I hate wishing a day away. Even if it is a bad day. Seriously though I am looking forward to Saturday being here and having a little down time. Hopefully everyone is feeling good by then, self included.
So if I am missing for a little while I apologize. I will get back to the DIY here. I promise. Hopefully with a lot of good news from the craft fair. I’m off. Wish my luck and happy DIY’ing.
